After hearing the slightly lukewarm reviews of Tron Legacy when it came to theatres last winter, I decided to pass on the film. Now that I’ve finally seen it though, I regret my decision, and I don’t think that its an exaggeration to say its one of the best movies I’ve seen in the past couple of years.
First off, rather than just performing the required fan service, Tron Legacy tells an interesting story on its own. I won’t say that it is realistic, and I won’t attempt to explain it here. But I think its a story that has significant merit both as speculative science fiction and as pure entertainment. Second, the visuals are amazing and a perfect mix of live action and CGI. Watch any trailer. Finally, the film’s score is so good that it has transcended the movie and stands on its own. Already there are dozens of remixes all over the internet, and I can imagine these songs becoming major staples of electronic and ambient genres.
Overall Tron Legacy is great piece of work. Ignore the naysayers.
